Who was Gladys Speers?

Our school has a wonderful sense of community where staff, students and parents know each other by name and treat one another with care. The school was named after Gladys Speers (nee McCleary), who was a teacher, school inspector and later, a trustee. Miss McCleary taught at Trafalgar's S.S. #8 when her sister Violet was a student. Many of her students went right through Grade 8 without ever having another teacher, and many years later she called each one by name, although they had married and had children of their own. We strive to maintain a similar level of connection to this day.
